The Hiawatha Police Department is located at 413 Oregon Street in the Law Enforcement Center. The Department consists of 10 full time certified officers. Also within the organization, there is a School Resource Officer, a Detective, and a Captain who oversees patrol functions. Additionally, there is an Administrative Supervisor of Department Operation and a Municipal Court Clerk.
The Hiawatha Police Department’s mission is to improve the quality of life while maintaining order. The Department strives to reduce crime through education, awareness and prevention. Providing police services is a lot more than just responding to a call and taking a report. It means working with the community to prevent crime and solve community problems. The cooperative working relationship between police officers and the people served is improving every day, and citizen confidence in the Police Department is the highest it has ever been.
