Projects
Downtown Streetscape
The City is working with Bottorff Construction to rework a few problem areas in the streetscape project area. We are also looking to re-form the Committee this summer to prepare for the application process for the 2009/2010 grant cycle. We are hoping to move forward with phase II of the streetscape project with the help of another grant. The trees and flowers in the planters look beautiful and are growing well. Everyone should be very proud of the work that has been done, as we move forward with the sesquicentennial celebration it will be nice to enjoy the new sidewalks and the planters that will provide seating for visitors.
Post Lantern Project
The Post Lantern project is moving along nicely. Almost all of the older lights have been removed. Crews are busily boring and laying conduit and the new pole bases are being poured as we progress. The majority of the bases have been refurbished and delivered to Hiawatha where crews will begin the assembly process with the new poles. Due to weather this winter things are slightly behind schedule but we are confident that the project will be completed by early fall.
City Lake Bridge Project
The City has begun collecting donations for a bridge over the City Lake. The Bridge which would replace the previous bridge that has been gone for several years would span lake and be Handicap accessible. The bridge is designed to have a roof structure over the center 60 feet and will have benches and fishing piers on either side in the middle. The construction drawings are available for preview at City Hall. Donations and donor forms can be completed there as well. Bricks are $100 and will be engraved with up to 27 characters including spaces. Benches can be donated for $2,500 and will have an engraved plaque placed on them. Donations to help with the offsets/fishing piers will be recognized with a plaque available for $1,500. As of April 11, 2008, we have received over $8,500 towards the bridge project.
