Registration and Licensing of Pets

This is a reminder to all pet owners that dogs and cats need to be registered and licensed by the City of Hiawatha. Every owner of a cat or dog over six months of age is required to annually register their animal with the city clerk.

The municipal code states registration fees shall be paid annually on or before the first day of January. When tags are purchased the cost is $3.00 for all males and neutered females and $6.00 non-neutered females. A $5.00 penalty fee for late registration will be accessed if not renewed by March 1st.

Upon registration, the owner shall present a current, completed certificate of immunization against rabies. There are two veterinary clinics located within one mile of town.
